Hello, thank you for downloading and welcome to episode number 37 of the Nintendo Switch UK podcasts. We are delighted to be back again, we've got lots to talk about. And we're going to be talking a little bit about some of the reviews that we've had in because it's been a few of them. And also we've got some news. We've got rumours and we've got the quiz. We're going to talk about that in a moment. My name is Mike.
Anton Winters 0:35
Oh yeah, I'm here I'm Al hi and Anton I'm back again I had a week off but it just feels like forever Even though it's been like one week excited because there's been a lot happening this week
Mike Macdermid 0:46
there has and I can't I can't couldn't remember if it was last week that you weren't here but you weren't here last week where you
Anton Winters 0:51
know I was getting prepared and doing some tests live stream stuff and thank you to everybody that joined us on youtube when we're I think we're playing Hello Nice other lovely chatting to you guys and I hope to do some more stuff in the future
Al Struthers 1:04
Yeah, and sorry I wasn't there because I was meant to be but last minute change the plans and all that good stuff.
Mike Macdermid 1:08
And I did see I was in a session recording session on the Sunday but did see you post stuff about going online? Cuz obviously I'm subscribed to a YouTube which you all should be and Anton me I am I'm subscribed to the YouTube now I was talking to just gentlemen I am
Al Struthers 1:25
an Internet and social stuff
Mike Macdermid 1:26
subscribe to it okay good girl surprising cuz you don't subscribe to Twitter but we'll come to that later. Anyway well done on the YouTube I haven't rolled on YouTube young man. I haven't tried it yet. Anton. I haven't tried. Let me start again. I have tried YouTube I haven't watched your stream of all night but Did it go well
Anton Winters 1:43
yeah, it was lovely at It was nice just having people in chat about what we've all been playing. And just talking some retro goodness, which was always fun. And then yeah, just exploring the game and thankfully I had some lovely help in the chat because that game is tougher than I gave it credit I fought socialise with with me me ready, but still, nonetheless brutally hard. Well,
Mike Macdermid 2:04
we're going to talk about that because I want to talk about what we've been playing this week. And I also want to talk about a couple of games I picked up on this on in the sale but before we do that, we're going to look at this week's reviews because we had a few reviews and actually thank you so much to everyone who's given us a five star review on Apple podcast is the best place because we tend to see it there and then we could share it and it helps other people see our podcast because I think we're kind of climbing the Nintendo podcast rank a little bit Alastair we seem to be we
Al Struthers 2:33
were doing quite well. Anton was digging around I think now correct me if I'm wrong here. Anton did you see where something like number three or number four in all the Nintendo podcasts, GN Nintendo themselves
Anton Winters 2:43
or like having a look for? Obviously there's no like official ranking for it. It's just going through and click and see what how many reviews are I only see about free that have more of us and us there's this another switch one. There's the Official Nintendo one. And there is the IJN voice chat one. So as
Unknown Speaker 3:03
Yeah, it's quite fun. It's, it's really, basically what we're seeing is that you guys are awesome, because you're leaving us reviews.
Mike Macdermid 3:09
Thank you. Yeah, the reviews have helped massively, because what it does, as well as if someone's searching for a switch podcast, I suspect there are people out there as well come on to in a minute with some of these reviews that maybe haven't had a podcast for the switch yet. And I've been searching around and maybe stumbled across ours. Having seen the reviews, what it will mean is that they'll get an idea as to what it's all about, because you've given us some really in depth stuff this week. So I'm just going to quickly go through them. So thank you, first of all, to Richie on Friday, who left a review. And he said just got listening to podcasts after tending to stick with BBC Radio I player in the past stumble across this gem and really enjoying the content and dynamics of the hosts. It's also made Nintendo money but it's good. buying more games from the shop as a 45 year old gamer who started the journey with a spectrum 48 K, I was a one to eight case I wasn't that far behind. It feels like I'm amongst friends the podcast allows me to enjoy my hobby was doing cooking, ironing and walking to work If only I could find more time to enjoy my switch. Amen to that. But
Al Struthers 4:04
you know, that's exactly when I was in podcast as well.
Mike Macdermid 4:08
I think that trying to find more time is the thing for all of us. Keep up the great work. So thank you so much to Richie. Now, the next podcast. In fact, the next. The other two podcasts we got this week had a theme running through them that it's not a negative, it was just something that they weren't sure about was
Al Struthers 4:24
a discussion between us, doesn't it? It's a discussion actually,
Mike Macdermid 4:27
it has we've talked about this all week. And we'll I'll read them first and then I'll tell you because this isn't this isn't the only time we've had feedback on this. But it's the first time we've had feedback to see this is not something that we should have. So anyway, Sienna Oscar, thank you very much. First of all, the headline is great The only podcast worth subscribing to isn't that brilliant. That's such a nice lovely. I've only just discovered this brilliant podcast in the last month or so. And before it's my favourite it's nice to hear fellow Scotsman talk about the Nintendo Switch as a newcomer to the Nintendo Switch I found the reviews and shop suggestions useful as have no idea what games were good and what wasn't. So night, it's nice to hear your opinions. I look forward to future episodes. My only complaint is the quiz. I don't really enjoy the section we'd rather have more discussion on games or even a q amp a. And then just before that from Taylor guy, thank you very much headline says good stuff. Five stars. Again, really enjoying hearing a British switch podcast. Well done, guys, I enjoy your chat. All the suggestion I would make is to remove the quiz part, which would allow a few more minutes of what you normally talk about. It's not needed Keep up the good work. So we had a chat about this. Because way back when we kind of started out doing the quiz, we got a bit of feedback from people. In fact, we asked for I think around about episode eight or something. And all the feedback we got at that point was we really love the quiz because we play along with it. And we try and score a higher score than either you or Alistair or
Al Struthers 5:45
which let's face it is not hard, which is not difficult.
Mike Macdermid 5:47
And also what the people enjoy doing was shouting at us and saying it's so obvious how can you not get this hair of Muppets? So? So there is there is a slightly mixed reaction to the quiz, which I guess is, yeah, it's good. But what obviously with season two, around the corner, we're now into the 10th month of the year, season two will start in January, we will be changing things up. So I think what we're going to do, you're a good idea, Anton to get some feedback. So after
Anton Winters 6:13
this episode goes live on Twitter at NS Uk podcast, we're gonna be doing a lot we poke. And on there, you can vote whether you want us to keep the pool and not keep the podcast, not the podcast.
Al Struthers 6:32
What if it came back? I mean, if it goes back no will.
Anton Winters 6:39
Yeah. So you get ready for camp revitalise it, and if you've got any ideas for open to suggestions, because we think there's a lot of fun to be done yet, but let us know. Cuz, you know,
Al Struthers 6:51
yeah, I mean, we do have a couple of ideas for counting on the quiz. There's a couple different ideas. But if people would prefer us to talk nonsense about what we normally do, yeah, I can do that.
Mike Macdermid 7:01
What we'll see as well as that we will try and fit everything in we need to talk about that week anyway, before we get to the quiz. So the reason we do the quiz last is that everything else hopefully has been talked about. And rather than ending it there, we kind of do the quizzes are kind of extra thing at the end. So I guess, at the moment, you don't have to listen to the quiz. Although, you know, we do enjoy. People listen to the whole podcast. So I think Well, I think maybe Anton, maybe we could have see what you think we could maybe have three options. So yes, keep the quiz. No, no quiz. Our third option? Yes, but opportunity for something else in season two. I think season two, because I think you know, we're only we're only eight weeks away from that anyway, so
Al Struthers 7:38
Jiminy Cricket. So we are.
Mike Macdermid 7:40
So thank you so much for those reviews. By the way, please do leave more of those reviews. Because as I mentioned many times, we don't make any money from doing this. We actually spend money doing this, but we really, really enjoy it and we want to keep going. But one of the things we have to do is to get that feedback so that other people listen to I saw listening figures have crept up slightly. I was having a look in the last few
Unknown Speaker 7:59
weeks. Did you see him? Listen, just generally last week? Yes.
Mike Macdermid 8:02
534 is fantastic. And also, I think the lights the lights, the Nintendo light awakening episode we did for we talked about the links awakening in the Nintendo light, switch light. words, I did the two of those. When we talked to the to those. That's our highest episode now, which is fantastic. So
Al Struthers 8:21
we've got thousands and thousands and thousands of listens to the podcast. It's lovely. It's great. What are you going to say, Anton?
Anton Winters 8:26
It's just it's kind of amazing. We're really trying to grow up cat thanks a lot bigger grow. We're on a bunch of different new platforms now. So if you've got anywhere that you listen to podcast, we're not there yet. Let us know because we're I think we're on like 12 different platforms now. And yeah, things are growing. It's really exciting time.
Mike Macdermid 8:45
I wondered as well. And it's again, a question we can ask people, maybe people can message us and say, but is it worth us having on YouTube? And Season Two? Is it worth is putting the episodes up there too? I know it's extra. But then I guess you know, the image we have the image you get them up there as a weekly thing for growing our YouTube. I don't Yeah, yeah.
Al Struthers 9:01
Okay. Let us know. Let us know that we don't know we're kind of just going blind. But you guys are the ones listen to us. Tell us what you want.
Mike Macdermid 9:08
Just very briefly, Anton, you without naming any other podcasts. Because obviously, there are some amazing podcasts out there. But you did a bit of research because one of the things we don't often do is go ahead and listen to other podcasts. I think it's really important to do that sometimes. So you had to listen. And one of the things that you were telling me is exactly what I found when I listened to another switch podcast. So without naming that podcast, what was the thing that really irritated you?
Anton Winters 9:31
Yeah, it's just, it's fascinating. I believe I was listening to a particular podcast I took them must have been like 30 minutes to actually get into the topic and mentally they had a much longer form podcast, but it's definitely a different kind of conflict of interest of having the personality and the actual core news announcements and all that switch goodness that we want to get.
Mike Macdermid 9:54
Yeah, I mean, it's definitely I think there's definitely a place for that for for people who have built up rapport with the you know, the people that listen and not makes a lot of sense but I think for us, we just want to get them to actually talking about Yeah,
Al Struthers 10:07
we we set out to do this we decided to make a podcast that would basically try and fit into our commute either one way or both ways because you're probably commuting roughly 20 minutes 40 minutes,
Anton Winters 10:17
something like that
Mike Macdermid 10:18
around about an hour at the most than it is usually you can listen to any day of commuting.
Al Struthers 10:22
Yeah, that was kind of the target.
Mike Macdermid 10:23
Yeah. Okay, so with that we've talked for far too long about this let's talk about before we move into the news let's talk about this week's games we've been playing because I have I have personally bought some some of the games on the sale I have tried so hard not to because I far too many games but I did so i'll come on to that in a minute. First of all, I'll say you've had a quiet week switch one I have
Al Struthers 10:44
I did say Mike Don't ask me where I played because the only time I played the switch this week I picked it up I played one track of Mario Kart with my son as only switched on by up by Mario to I've been playing Mario Kart tour on my phone all week which is still actually really enjoying it and I'm not spent a single penny yet
Mike Macdermid 10:59
well that is a talking point in the moment but Anton What about yourself
Anton Winters 11:04
similarly going wild and that count best attendees at Nintendo a short sale I managed to pick up started Valley finally been waiting. What seemed excellent months to finally pick that up Hold on a watch. I give a good play earlier on in the week just before the sale at defunct, which has this weird going and start getting really old one and then outside of that I've played a little bit of Super Mario Maker to with Emily. And that was before they announced all the new multiplayer the new multiplayer update, which we'll get into later in the episode. I have going in there and seeing it before that update. I'm like, oh dear Lord, there was a lot of work to get done. It's really making me appreciate the work that come into the new update. And again, mainly Super Mario Maker to how about yourself, Mike? Well, you've been buying and playing. And I picked
Mike Macdermid 11:54
up a couple of the real bargains on so I picked up. Boston haven't touched that yet. But it's one of the games it's about 253 pounds, which gets really well reviewed as an older title, defunct. I pick that one up as well. I had a very quick shot of that seems. Okay, I think it's a short game and it's not going to change. It's not sort of, you know, if you're looking for something that feels like 2019 maybe it's not the game for you. It feels more like 2003 but it's got something about it. It's fun. I picked up stick it to the man which is quite funny. I must have played that
Al Struthers 12:30
if I have played that that was the one we used to basically stick stickers. Stickers Yes. And if we're really well voice that good is funny.
Mike Macdermid 12:37
Yeah, real voice I played it maybe about 20 minutes of that just the star and and thought yeah, I'm gonna like this. And the one I played the most off of this week from the seal items is Gatto, Roberto. Which
Anton Winters 12:49
to tell so Gatto,
Mike Macdermid 12:50
Roberto is actually in black and white. And it's kind of Metroid video type game, I guess, with a cat who your ships crashed, and it's up to this cat to save everyone so you get a robot suit. And then in the underwater scenes, you have like a little space bubble suit to use and you basically have to shoot stuff it's really fun. It's really tricky talking about hard games, I just finally got through a boss level there. And I couldn't do it it was so difficult I was getting the boss don't have a half level half the the bar left and then just dying only you can only get hit four times. And then I realised I went online at time after this up and so the first thing you said was if you don't realise that you can hold down why to auto shoot whilst you manoeuvre, you will not be this boss. So I went back and did it and did it on my second attempt. And that's why but it's really good. It's worth it. I think it's like 299 or something. So it's less than a drink out so well worth it.
Al Struthers 13:44
Cool. More buying advice
Mike Macdermid 13:46
like it The art style is great Gatto, Roberto was the name of it.
Anton Winters 13:49
Right there.
Mike Macdermid 13:50
Definitely do i think i think you'll quite like it. Anton. I think it's gonna be at your street, actually. So that's my recommendation of new titles. Anyway, while we move on to this week's news, what we do that absolutely, let's do it. All right, let's move on to this week's news. Well, first off, actually, we're going to kind of put these into sort of more like announcements, I guess. And then and then we'll kind of work through them. But yeah, essentially, there's a whole bunch of stuff this week and one of the ones is going to take us back right back to the late first decade of the 2000s. to Dr. Kawashima is brain training. How old is your brain for is coming to Nintendo Switch in Japan in December. And I for one would welcome this being our Western release. Alistair, you're looking at me like come on. That was the problem with us having a brain training on this way because we
Al Struthers 14:43
don't train brains. The only thing it does is it trains you to play that game. It does not make a brain any better. It just trains you to get better at that particular game. So it's it's it's bad branding as far as
Mike Macdermid 14:56
Sonic does not teach you how to have a hedgehog that runs a million this
Al Struthers 15:00
isn't pretending to train your brain This is pretending to
Mike Macdermid 15:03
be a sonic that runs really fast,
Al Struthers 15:05
completely as a Sonic and runs really fast. It does exactly what it says in the
Mike Macdermid 15:08
game trains your brain to be better at this game. So there we are.
Anton Winters 15:13
This is normal education. This is like skill when
Al Struthers 15:17
this when this games games were marketed as make your brain better make you smarter all this kind of stuff and it doesn't do
Mike Macdermid 15:23
any harm to your brain. No, none whatsoever. I see my My issue is that there are a lot of games, that not not actual video games, there are a lot of puzzles that you do like Mensa related puzzles, for example, which don't actually make you any clever. They're just testing certain things in your you know, in your reactions or your memory or whatever. And for me, this is a little bit like this. It's like it's a bit misleading to say it's a dream trainer
Al Struthers 15:48
don't do though. I mean, they're good fun. Do you don't get me wrong, the good fun games, they're fine for just musing yourself. They just don't make your brain smarter.
Mike Macdermid 15:57
Anton, there's one thing on this that really caught my attention. I disagree with Alistair, and not that it makes your brain smarter. I agree it doesn't. But I actually really liked this release. And one of the things that's got me excited about it is that it comes with a stylus a bit like the Mario Maker type thing. You're getting a free stylist with this. And that's that's great, because that's how she wants to know. Oh, because of the silence. Yeah,
Anton Winters 16:18
yeah, my like saying in tandem with this release on December 27, they're actually going to be releasing for the first time and Official Nintendo Switch stylus that you can buy separately. So it seems like Nintendo slowly getting a commitment to do more touch oriented games. Because unlike mario maker, this is a farce hundred percent touch orientated game, outside, well to ND on the switch.
Mike Macdermid 16:42
There's one reason one reason alone, I will be buying that and that is for football manager. Because I mentioned it before, football manager is much easier to play handheld. But one of the things I don't like about it is it's quite slow to navigate with the icons. And it's slightly too small to use my finger. On the
Al Struthers 16:59
little anyway, stylish these days would work because the switches got standard capacitive touch,
Mike Macdermid 17:04
it's possible to get the cheap ones with the ball on the end. But all
Al Struthers 17:09
most of these things should work. Yeah.
Mike Macdermid 17:10
But the fact that they've actually come out with one for me is is it's a nice little kind of nod to say yes, that are still games that this would suit so especially it comes bundled with a game like this if we can get it. Is there any hope that we're getting this in the West? I think sadly there's
Anton Winters 17:24
there's not really been any talk outside of Japan about doing so. And we're just kept interested. Interesting, because I don't like historically looking back to 2006 seven when the originals came on. I don't remember it being like a ubiquitous like, I can't remember it just being like universal. I didn't really remember it being killed. Oh, that cool Japanese game that you? Everybody's playing over there. And we're playing here and I'll it was just kind of felt like it was the Phil craze. Maybe it was
Al Struthers 17:52
audience or something? Maybe maybe they just did better over there. Something like that. Yeah, I mean, I should I mean, I thought were really good, good reason for coming out. Although it's not a very good game for training your brain, you are getting older, and yours are being suffer from things like mental degradation. Actually, these games are quite good. Just any doing many mental thing is good for your brain. So
Mike Macdermid 18:12
here's the thing, we've got the ring coming as well, the ring fitness, not the Lord of the Rings, or the concrete one
Al Struthers 18:19
ring to rule them all are the stuff. Yeah, the creepy old one. Oh, that scares me that night.
Mike Macdermid 18:24
So we're obviously the peripheral that we're getting, which is going to be like our equivalent of we fit, we think, for the switch. But we're also now getting this. And I think what this is showing to me and unfortunately not getting in the West. But what this is suggesting to me is that Nintendo have an overall plan of saying, Yes, we did this really well. In the week era, we managed to appeal to different audiences in a way that no other console ever had. Can we do this again, is there a way that we can make this fit into different categories of people who might go out and buy a switch? I think this is what this is about. And I wonder if this one might be the start of a seeing more of these.
Al Struthers 19:02
I suspect and maybe it'd be a very good move from that word very, very well in the past, as you said, and the switches got a lot of potentials not massively expensive. It's fairly robust, particularly just leaving this dock anyway, then you've
Mike Macdermid 19:13
got the ladder as well, which
Al Struthers 19:14
you've got the light, you've got the fact you can do joy cons off, which gives us so much flexibility. No, I mean, one is so much flexibility that actually there's a lot of use cases there's a lot of creative you could do with it. And I guess the only downside to it being Nintendo is it's quite difficult for people to do niche apps because they're going to get through Nintendo certification all that stuff. Yeah, so it does make it slightly more difficult but it's not impossible.
Anton Winters 19:38
Yeah, it's especially fasting when you look at the switch light marketing, which is the thing I find really jarring about that is it almost when you look at the switch like adverts it's almost like a mini Time Capsule looking back to the days of 3ds and there we adverts just having like old kids like playing with them. It doesn't have young adults on rooftops like our good old fashioned 2017 switch commercials. It's just people like having fun and old cat it's interesting how it's very much shifting and I guess at some point the cows the switches market like so much and it's got such an image with young adults that eventually you just have to expand out from there and I would be curious to see how much other ways we could do this with get more DS titles on the switch like it seems completely feasible.
Mike Macdermid 20:26
Yeah, I think we will I think we'll see more DS more touchscreen titles especially as I said with the light know being released I think we'll see those and it will make us eventually have a little touch only icon or a handheld only icon or something perhaps a
Al Struthers 20:39
lot of options are there I mean my hand who is on SA she's now 7071 she's got DS yeah he's got a week I can see it's not inconceivable she might end up with a switch.
Mike Macdermid 20:51
Yeah, yeah, it's just getting to that stage of the cycle of the switch. All right, let's move on then to another game release that we know is coming now we've watched the trailer on this and we know that these games get quite well reviewed so my hero ones justice to is going to Nintendo Switch 2020 that I never played them but for me always seems like a really over the top kind of crazy Power Rangers meets Street Fighter.
Al Struthers 21:12
I say I love the way you deliver that name. My hero ones justice. I'd read as my hero ones justice
Mike Macdermid 21:18
ones justice.
Al Struthers 21:20
I know Yeah, I completely agree with you. It looks it looks fun. It looks cool. As lots of destructive environments, lots of anime, lots of cartoon violence. It looks
Mike Macdermid 21:28
like it could be can be amusing. There are a few games of this nature that we maybe don't know that much about that have come out on the switch already. Anton Yeah, they're actually pretty reasonable.
Anton Winters 21:40
Yeah, because we've had a fair like one or two of those Dragonball Z games and it's all about that over the top flying for the air. Who can needs gravity Kelton and Sam in this camp, similar at least from Bandai call and looks to me in a similar sort of fame. And then I believe the first game golf quite good review on switch. But I remember also being quite excited to hit like that. Yeah. And 44 for like a near 50 pound mark. So and it's definitely got a niche audience. I'm glad to see more games coming along.
Mike Macdermid 22:15
Yeah, absolutely. Talking to more games, we're getting a new one called broken roads. It's Fallout one and two style top down RPG is coming to the switch in 2021. This is the Australian developers I was there, isn't it?
Unknown Speaker 22:27
It is Yeah. Or what are they called? Again?
Mike Macdermid 22:30
It's the ones
Unknown Speaker 22:30
drop beer bites.
Mike Macdermid 22:32
So the so they've got this kind of moral compass thing going on in the game? Is that right? So you've got it
Al Struthers 22:38
early. So yeah, it's it's been whatever I've been reading about there is an intriguing morality system. Okay, which intrigues me?
Mike Macdermid 22:46
So I'm assuming it's going to be if you think about things like the the what's the Walking Dead TV show? Where you've got to make decisions about Okay, well, we're gonna have to leave that guy behind. But if we do that, if we don't do that, one of these persons might die that person Yeah, that's kind of where I was thinking of my goal. That's actually a lot more in depth
Al Struthers 23:07
than I was thinking I haven't had sort of Red Dead Redemption where you come a good guy or bad guy. I like your version better. Your version is certainly more intriguing. What do you think Anton?
Anton Winters 23:15
Yeah, in my head I was looking at this and Calvin look at it really does seem like they're, they're trying to revitalise those first early calc, Obsidian Entertainment sale, follow games where it was, say, left those like when you had like a dialogue tree, every option was like ambiguous of whether it's a good or bad each one had a pro and a con to each of the options. And it seems like they're just kind of going for that but make it a little bit less kind of open ended and who know what's going on as a couple early follow up games where and that it'd be interesting because similar to similar to camp genres, like the the old craft of old games, like one or two, and there's a lot of stuff in between genres that Caldicot evolved into what we have today that can be lost in there. excited to see this come back with some modern refinements and it'd be interesting to see if it's approachable and 2019
Mike Macdermid 24:06
Yeah, it looks interesting. I like that look at the trailer. I thought it's definitely got potential so it seems like a good home for it as well.
Al Struthers 24:13
If I get it I might find the bad guy. I always I always want to believe I gave it all Jenna been good good. I can see with you. I can't bring myself to do the bad choices. I just can't do it. Imagine yourself
Mike Macdermid 24:21
as an actor going in for the role. That's what you need to do. No Patrick Stewart. guy he's always pretty good guy. I'm even Shakespeare he did Shakespeare plays back in the day. That's true by the way. New Car trailer Did you see it? I've seen it I have not watched it Okay, okay no more than that. But go and watch it
Al Struthers 24:36
will discover what the four personalities in this game either right depending on your choices for personalities they go to and philosophies of utilitarianism, nihilism, existentialism, and Machiavellianism. Wow, so good for Machiavellianism.
Mike Macdermid 24:49
I was watching a Simpsons episode today and he mentioned Machiavelli the villain ism is the one where humour and listens to the tape at night and gets all loads of big words.
Unknown Speaker 24:59
Oh, yeah.
Mike Macdermid 25:01
Instead of weight loss, and it's absolutely brilliant. I'm at the end it says, What does it mean? Dunno, it's just great. That's all that I think about now with that. Okay, let's move on then. super epic. It's a Metroid vinyasa style game coming to switch in December and it's about saving video games by going to war with big big evil video game companies and micro transactions This is a bit true to life isn't
Anton Winters 25:25
this game looks quite fun I don't know about yourselves I always love a good man a game reminds me of the days of Sega guy and like hyper dimension Nick Jr. and you know it's a storey that has true and a close to my heart. I know our search not followers welcome but the micro Carter micro transactions the soften some law. Maybe we need to go to Nintendo with our own war.
Mike Macdermid 25:48
Yeah, it does look good, though. I gotta say quite like the animation on it.
Al Struthers 25:52
Yeah, any game we spend all time writing what looks like a llama is finding my book.
Mike Macdermid 25:57
Excellent. So there's a there's a trailer for it right now if you want to go and check out super
Unknown Speaker 26:01
looks funny.
Mike Macdermid 26:02
super epic. Right next up arcade archives Karate Champ has been announced and released for switch for 629. It supports one to two players. I did see this when I was looking through the releases on the store the other day. I also noticed one night stand is one of the other releases for 399 I don't know if you spotted that. game where you have had a one night stand and then you follow a whole lot of dialogue to decide where you go from there.
Al Struthers 26:28
Oh, I assume as a game was standing differently.
Mike Macdermid 26:30
Well, that might be what it means. I don't know. I'm just I'm just going with what I read. And it's about 399 But anyway, Karate Champ it's a it's an old 119 84 Yeah, it's appropriate. What was it originally is it was it like it was
Al Struthers 26:46
it was released on
Mike Macdermid 26:48
the week. I thought it was on the news. I never said when you said 84 that threw me a little bit but
Al Struthers 26:54
it wasn't. It wasn't week and the Commodore 64 weirdly is also an iOS and an apple too.
Mike Macdermid 27:00
Sam The one thing I will say for that is that I know I quite like our current arcade archive CDs is some good stuff in there is I know they do their pricing at 629 but it seems a lot for for a game from
Anton Winters 27:10
1984 I won't lie. When I saw this. I was like after the last one or two arcade arcade archive games like or they started to run out of games it doesn't really seem like they're coming out with the big hitters these days. I mean
Mike Macdermid 27:24
there's so many there's like the turtles games like turtles and time or what was that arcade one? turtles and dinos
Al Struthers 27:29
I was so snazzier
Mike Macdermid 27:30
Yeah, it was there not an arcade version of that I was there. Yeah, well, it was what turtles arcade game, which was really iconic. There's loads of arcade games are going to go to an arcade. No
Anton Winters 27:40
route. We need that the Simpsons arcade is only ever released once on Xbox Live Arcade and I played a couple times in arcades had just say it's one of those games that travels and it'd be so great on switch with for joy Collins quote. And I remember playing that in the arcades, when it was out and yeah, it's a proper that would bring back memories for a lot of people. So yeah,
Mike Macdermid 28:04
like, there's got to be more than just I mean, there's nothing wrong with karate chop, but let's not release it at 629 Let's make it to 99 or something, you know?
Unknown Speaker 28:11
Yeah,
Mike Macdermid 28:12
sure. Especially when you look at the sale all these amazing games we've just picked up for like two three quid so the price of wrong people won't buy it. Hold on a second price. I mean, yeah.
Al Struthers 28:22
You know, people by great good
Anton Winters 28:24
Yep, it says their business to to make and their money to spend and, you know, it's up to them.
Mike Macdermid 28:31
I'm just not 100% sure that that is quite the right pricing. Anyway, let's move on to some more news. FIFA 20. I've scored. They've got their Metacritic score. It's a it's a really high 0.8 out of 10 980 point effective. Wow, is that possible?
Al Struthers 28:50
There must be there can be many games lower than 0.8?
Mike Macdermid 28:53
I don't think so.
Anton Winters 28:54
Yeah, it's definitely a few bomb, like, but at the same time, it's like oh, dear, nobody singing the Gracie is here. Sir. What's your thoughts on the resident FIFA player Mike.
Mike Macdermid 29:06
Okay, so I played FIFA 18 on the switch last night, actually, my brother was over. So don't don't sort of play that many games together that often. But we do love a game of FIFA. And honestly, if I played FIFA 20 on the switch, I don't think the experience would have been any different. I think that's the problem. And the switch, it particularly has been left behind we don't have the journey, which is the big selling point. For a lot of people. I would have bought it if we had the journey. But not just that fever. 20 is essentially on the switch the same as before 19 is it's not even it's they've done nothing to it to upgrade and it's just lazy. Just Can I
Al Struthers 29:37
can I just clarify those 0.8? Is that on the switch version? Or? No? I think that's the game.
Mike Macdermid 29:41
I don't
Unknown Speaker 29:42
know. Delegates West version. Okay, okay. Okay.
Mike Macdermid 29:45
What's the overall score then for the rest? Do we know what the I'm not too sure. Off the top my head. Sorry. Okay. So I was just going to check that because I'm interested to see but the sweet the reason for the switch version is basically what they've done is they've taken FIFA 19 and just re skinned it without actually doing anything to it. So they haven't outdated. It's so lazy of them. And you know what I would rather they didn't release it on the switch. I would rather we just had FIFA 18 is a cheap option. And get it in the bargain bin or by FIFA 20. If we really wanted to, because it's an it's an insult to people to release FIFA 19 again, essentially, is what they've done. So yeah, FIFA 19, FIFA 19 was lacking and half of the features as well. That's what's frustrating.
Anton Winters 30:22
Yeah, and I do really want to emphasise, like, I know it's kind of a joke where whenever they release new FIFA game, whereas like, Oh, it's just the same game rescanned, but it's literally just a new loading screen, a new logo on a corner. Some new colour shelter Ellington of change name is Roscoe,
Mike Macdermid 30:41
that that is not acceptable. For a full price game that you've bought every year and been an avid fan and supporter of EA you've got some scores for
Al Struthers 30:51
Yeah, I've just been googling it. So yeah, you're spot on the Legacy Collection users score 0.8 likes a FIFA 20 on PlayStation four user score a 1.2 Yes. overwhelming
Mike Macdermid 31:03
and the thing is the meta score so the actual reviews from critics is 79 so it's not that the game is a bad game.
Al Struthers 31:10
I mean, the switch version is only gets 43
Mike Macdermid 31:12
but that's because it is a bad game but then FIFA on other consoles we don't have that FIFA we are given a poor cousin of the FIFA game that everyone else is getting plus we've had nothing on this year the FIFA the other people are getting it's nothing wrong with the game particularly it's just laziness on his part that they haven't actually done anything to keep people coming back and it's not actually fair on consumers you know what do it every two years if you're not going to do anything release every two years nobody cares about the rosters? Not much
Unknown Speaker 31:41
Well, this bit more of us as well. We're talking total of for the PlayStation versions 1300 16 reviews that's a lot of reviews.
Mike Macdermid 31:49
I would love if Konami would take note of this and bring out pairs on the switch because getting proposition is getting really good reviews on other console's So anyway, I'm
Al Struthers 32:02
getting annoyed the cycles flipping again through evil people.
Mike Macdermid 32:06
And the 90s late 90s it was all but anyway, let's move on. I know this is recorded that Okay, next up the narrative first person puzzle adventure game the Bridewell conspiracy, which we've talked about before has a release date and it's very soon as the 10th of October Anton Yeah,
Anton Winters 32:21
it says really excited this game really caught me off guard obviously big BAFTA claim winning should do a Bossa Studios and but again this is another interesting tale where I'm which day one we're getting it on day one I think it's all right now you can pick up an apple arcades and it's a it's very interesting because I believe this won't be on the cheaper end of indie games and it's going to be curious to see once again we've got more competition in this very crowded space and what again to us thank we're the switches that call any fret there or do you think to completely different markets not going to be competing with each other? And
Mike Macdermid 33:05
I think there is space I think the thing is that with the the switch if a game is with any console but it's particularly the switch I think of the game is good enough it will do well anyway so I'm not too worried about it from that perspective. The game itself we did look we did look at this previously asked it didn't we
Al Struthers 33:20
did and I'm actually I might slightly disagree with you. I don't think we've got anything to worry about from Xbox and PlayStation because they are fundamentally different platforms. But with Apple arcade that I think is more of a worried depends how many people are actually signing up to us up arcade because we've also got this three month trial or things one month trial and gate for every every Apple iOS user out there, iPad iOS user. That's a lot of people who could potentially be playing this game on a completely different platform for free Yeah, that's a bit of a problem I think for switch
Anton Winters 33:50
because I won't like even it's like what the biggest switch fans owning like being part of a switch podcasts. I was sitting here and it's like I am look at this game I think cold possibly be like at least 15 pounds. And then I'm sitting there it's like five 499 and I could play this and in a tangle tower Sonic Rasen at the floors lava it's it's a very competitive fair offering and you can
Al Struthers 34:16
you can use your PlayStation cool you guys what's controller on these iOS devices? So I have a JM bit concerned whitelist for switch switch is not going to go away it's not a problem for switch in the greater scheme of thing I definitely this particular games instance I suspect that's not going to have that bigger ticket on here. But he's not as big deal was done if Apple arcade wasn't around.
Mike Macdermid 34:41
Yeah. One that's going to see you Anton Super Mario Maker to version 1.1 point always I don't know.
Anton Winters 34:47
Yeah. And it's it's well over 2am as you know, when they're super mario maker to came out there's a little backlash because there isn't actually have like proper multiplayer, like in plain language random. I think you could play with friends. But no, you can have like local, have mobile people in the same room and play online. And I was sad. Like, as I mentioned earlier, in the podcast, I had Emily will park to play some and some are maker too. And we had to go in there going the store, search promote player compatible labels, download a couple maps, go back into the course browser, then play them then go out. And then it was like you didn't have high scores. You didn't have anything like that. So it was a very broken system. And no, it looks have an oboe and it's you just go in there multiple players. And it looks really exciting, especially for playing the wealth of low key player maps are out there and hopefully will encourage more people to make them. And on top of that they've got tonnes of tweaks and that we faint fine adjustments here and there. Nintendo's really good. And there. Yeah, I'm just excited. I want to get Emily back over so I can give give the full review of how good this game is multiplayer can say
Mike Macdermid 35:55
anything. Do it on YouTube, and you can stream some of it as well. Next up the Super Nintendo PlayStation off, what would it be like to have one of those? The unicorn? So good. I mean, yeah, it's rumoured to be going up for auction soon, there is no hope on this planet that
Al Struthers 36:14
it was just just one in existence.
Anton Winters 36:18
Is it just one on two, there's only one that's been publicly discovered, theoretically, there could be mobile, but this is the one no one working console. And yeah, and it was fighting to someone's loft or something wasn't even a box in a loft. See?
Mike Macdermid 36:34
So funny. If you haven't seen any of the footage of this is basically the storey behind it very briefly is that it looked like at one point Nintendo and Sony were going to go into partnership together before the police station was released. And they came up with this prototype of the Super Nintendo police station, which never went anywhere. So there are so well in CD that our prototype models out there. There's been one discovered it was discovered about a year ago, six months a year ago and it was a lot of time about it. And it looks like it's going up for auction Anton I know that you have your bid ready?
Anton Winters 37:04
Yeah, I'm looking at this now I'm going to put a prediction out there. I think this is going to be like the most expensive video game. Anything that's ever going to be like outside of intellectual property and all that nonsense, but EOB video game blank that's ever going to be sold and like I imagined this necklace money
Al Struthers 37:25
I wonder who get it wonderfully a private individual for the BZM or something like that. I mean, it's it's just a preacher is just one of a kind of things anymore there It must be worth several zeros, many, many zeros. There's one.
Mike Macdermid 37:36
There's one that I would really like I think it's the the Dreamcast and it comes in the form of like hi fi sort of it's on eBay. In fact, I've probably be able to log in and have a little look so I was watching one of the I think it's the genius at the Dreamcast stores at the Game Cube I can't remember which one it is. But it's from that era and basically it's combined as a high five thing they've gone through with 700 pounds on eBay right now there are few available were obviously sold on mass it wasn't it's not a prototype right? was an actual release. Oh,
Anton Winters 38:06
are you thinking of the Panasonic q the one it was like half DVD player Media Centre and Game Cube?
Mike Macdermid 38:13
Yes, that's what it is. Yeah, I was thinking it was a Dreamcast, but it's not as a Game Cube, isn't
Anton Winters 38:17
it? It's gorgeous. is called like a chrome finish on it. Yeah, it looks amazing. And those if you want to see the rare version of that they put a gameboy player version for that. And oh wow. Rare than that the actual console it's insane money. Mike is currently trying to log into his eBay account as cannot remember his own password which is
Mike Macdermid 38:36
kind of embarrassing for you guys because it changed it recently because I have another security alerts and a real one not fake one.
Al Struthers 38:42
To be fair, I have no idea what how most my passwords are though capital a password manager for me.
Mike Macdermid 38:46
I can look it up my phone. You can see here you'll see on
Unknown Speaker 38:50
on Am I going to look at who you are
Mike Macdermid 38:52
because they are genuinely amazing. Things
Al Struthers 38:56
I just went out because I elbowed Mike's table.
Anton Winters 38:58
Stupid, like, there's a game here cassette, they've got like poor poor audio output on it. And it just gives like a really crisp signal. Because at the time, it was like a 700 pound Game Cube. And the game to directly retail for I believe it's 250. So the Panasonic q was like the luxury Deluxe. I own a Lamborghini and a yacht version of the console.
Mike Macdermid 39:22
That's Yeah, we're just looking at it now. And it is so beautiful. With the four ports in the front as well for the controller system. Absolutely love that. I mean, I'm looking at
Al Struthers 39:32
it looks a bit like a karaoke machine like a cheap ass karaoke. pretty cheap as
Mike Macdermid 39:38
an expensive cheap one. But yes, that that proves everything will go for a heck of a lot more. I think that's going to be the one. You're right, Anton. I don't think Yeah, absolutely. Okay, next up, then. We have alpha dream the studio behind the Mario and Luigi games, which you might have played on the DS or the 3ds. I know I did play on the on the 3ds as follows bankruptcy, they're in a lot of debt. Anton.
Anton Winters 40:03
Yeah, the shoe deals. Apparently No. And 465 million yen and that's about equivalent to like five 3.5 million pounds. And yeah, apparently the last game that remake all posters and site storey sold so bad that that's the reason Nintendo decided to x any other 3ds games, which is kind of bizarre that I wonder who calls the shots on this kind of stuff? Was it Nintendo commissioning more 3ds games? Or was that the alpha dream the studio just not having enough money to develop a brand new switch? Hello, I'm wondering where all of this went wrong?
Al Struthers 40:45
Yeah, I mean, it's a shame. It's a real shame. But I guess, I don't know. Is it because it's just I mean, the thing is, is such big names Mario and Luigi, you wouldn't think that a game with Mario and Luigi and the title would be subject to the same issues as other mirror Marshall titles that the rest of us true, I guess it comes down to how they were marketed and which budget was buying it. And I guess the 3ds has kind of come to an end of its life cycle people stop me buying many games for believe why it bombed a little and the students suffered as a result. It's a shame I should because I mean, my Luigi IP is very, very valuable IP. Yeah, Nintendo tend to be quite protective about their IP. So they'll be they may have had a string in Australia a hand in potentially, it's funny because
Mike Macdermid 41:27
I can totally see those titles being on the switch as well because they're great.
Al Struthers 41:32
Over recoup it. Now. Who knows? Maybe they will.
Mike Macdermid 41:34
Well, we'll see if you play crush team. Sorry, Anton. You just said
Anton Winters 41:38
it's very fascinating because cosplay 2019 for a 3ds was really late. And yeah, it would be sad to hear if it was like Nintendo that was the one that killed the strings there about and I really hope something can be worked Oh, late Nintendo just buys a studio on the cheap. It just starts making them in house. It's a shame and obviously, let's go out to the people who are maybe not doing the greatest employment wise right now.
Mike Macdermid 42:05
Yeah, it's not an ideal situation with things that are happening for a lot of people. Next up Crash Team Racing natural fuel if you play this, which I do, although haven't in a while. I must admit they're getting a spooky grumpy event track new characters, new items and a new challenge type October 4, which is no was not a good we're actually in the sixth as we record this, but it's in this period all the way through till November 3, so I might go and have a go at that, Alistair. Yes. That's awesome. And they're pretty good. To play it. You might play with me.
Unknown Speaker 42:34
It's pretty good. America and crap. Well, I've discovered
Mike Macdermid 42:38
this Yeah, but this one I do. I do really like crush Team Racing. I do have crush Team Racing, Anton. Not
Anton Winters 42:44
yet. You know, my Mario Kart keeps me happy so I haven't had a need so enough so being even though it's months later, I'm still on the fence between that Crash Team Racing and Sonic Team Racing. There's so many kart racer spot I to love the ascetic of justice actual Halloween game. It's not a horror game, but just Halloween. I just love that Ascetic. Ghostbusters out
Mike Macdermid 43:07
this week.
Al Struthers 43:08
I rewatch the trailer they are all remastered and HT beautiful. She was actually quite funny. Yeah, it's got his face in it. Dan Aykroyd
Mike Macdermid 43:16
Yeah, I love it. I absolutely love I'm definitely gonna be I'm gonna go back and buy that very soon if I think he's out in the store already, actually, but I'm going to go for the physical copy.
Al Struthers 43:25
Are you going to get that before or after we just mentioned
Mike Macdermid 43:28
I don't know. Yeah. tangle tower has been delayed until 22nd of October. These are the guys behind which game? That's right. Yes. Yes. So it's been delayed but not that long.
Anton Winters 43:40
Yeah, it's looking really sharp this game it really caught me off guard if you guys are not somebody who usually gets into like a point click mystery murder sale game. give this one a gander is filled with personality and similar. This is another one that's coming to Apple arcade. So you can maybe trail it on there then violate the good version on switch. You know,
Al Struthers 44:00
I'm there. I don't quite understand why it's been delayed because it's been out on market now for a couple of weeks. Maybe.
Mike Macdermid 44:09
Switch optimization.
Anton Winters 44:11
Doesn't seem like a good idea.
Mike Macdermid 44:13
Well, we'll see. Because sniff Eclipse is such a game I'll give them the benefit of the doubt because it was a very good game. Excellent. One of the best lunch titles that nobody expected. I think. Next up Reggie has received the prestigious Walter day Lifetime Achievement Award from the International video game Hall of Fame which is amazing for someone who didn't spend his life working in video games.
Anton Winters 44:36
I find this so bizarre. I remember when Bowser Kim and to president ceo of Nintendo of America we're all kind of like what does he do again? Like so I guess he does stuff that it's like not just business that's impressive to see. But you know he's such a personality within gaming so the fact we still remember him like hey, thanks had a PlayStation recently left and naughty really bad and I let that that but we sell today we sell chapel Reggie like it's part of Nintendo so good to see him get that recognition.
Al Struthers 45:11
You know, he's now lecturing
Mike Macdermid 45:13
Yeah, we mentioned that we didn't lecturing and so if you are a university somewhere in America
Al Struthers 45:17
I guess you can go hang out in the presence of royalty
Mike Macdermid 45:21
royalty Hall of Fame royalty know as well Nintendo Super Mario UK Super Mario underscore UK Twitter account has named has been named up to know has named October 20 19th is Super Luigi month. Very good. I mean, I guess that's something to do with the mansion. Maybe? I don't know.
Al Struthers 45:39
And possibly maybe some gooey things going on? I don't know
Mike Macdermid 45:42
I Anton shed some light Oh,
Anton Winters 45:44
yeah. I think the funny they're said to us remember this year flew ET and 2013?
Al Struthers 45:51
Yes. No. Do not know the whole marketing thing. We released what two or three big games that year? Yeah.
Anton Winters 45:58
They were slowly just mentioned to their new support Luigi, you and Dr. Luigi. And then it's quite sad because that ended up being the lowest, like the biggest loss for the company's history was
Mike Macdermid 46:10
that you know,
Al Struthers 46:12
really Jeff always felt sorry for the Jovi I sort of feel a sort of affinity for him. token a gangly dude. You know, there's there might be a few passing resemblances.
Mike Macdermid 46:24
I'm not sure if that makes me Mario. But then Anton Sonic
Al Struthers 46:27
are you? Are you my brother man? Could be good.
Anton Winters 46:31
Yeah, my brother's name
Mike Macdermid 46:34
is a bit unfair. He's not the Super Luigi brothers. You know when you think about it
Al Struthers 46:38
would be like Luigi, his little brother.
Mike Macdermid 46:40
Ya know if you call the office if it was if we were brothers really the super MC brothers and all that you wouldn't feel good about that?
Al Struthers 46:45
I wouldn't feel great about it actually. Maybe it
Mike Macdermid 46:50
was slightly slightly the super Louie Super Luigi months basically so doing a mini version of what they did in 2013 basically Anton
Anton Winters 46:58
Yeah, it's a shame would have loved to just see Dr. Leon switch but I guess I'll take my Tripoli we just mentioned free which is coming remarkably.
Al Struthers 47:07
And it looks very make by surprise and intimate kiddos
Mike Macdermid 47:11
and also have to see the multiplayer stuff looks really good and Louise mansion. I'm excited about that.
Al Struthers 47:16
I know a few people have preorder the game actually really? There's a lot of people excited with this. Nice there's a lot of love for Luigi, I
Mike Macdermid 47:21
think I probably will end up being there. Anyway, let's move on then finally because we are running out of time fast but we still have some time for some of this week's rumours. So Nintendo are hiring stick your hand up in there if you want a new job but you want to work on a new 2d Mario or, or a new 3d Mario titles so this is the rumour that Nintendo are looking for new stuff, which I'm kind of hoping there's a 3d Mario title because I feel like we have our quota of 2d Mario titles at the moment. Personally Alster,
Al Struthers 47:54
yes Mario to say to be very nice or Mario Galaxy.
Mike Macdermid 47:57
Mario Galaxy. Yeah. Great. Very helpful, obviously to what about you on
Anton Winters 48:01
Yeah, it's and we're definitely getting both because they've got their two separate listings. But okay, you know, 3d Mariel I was like totally prepared for we we would love a new Odyssey or even a new Galaxy or poor or a there's plenty to do there but don't you find that fascinating? There's potentially work on a new to the material specially regarding we've got mario maker in the world. Like how would that ever work? And that's the thing that really caught my attention because in my head I was like the dead Super Mario Bros you Deluxe just before maker to because the new the franchise, they would be dead at that point. It's Yeah, yeah. I wonder where where do they want to go?
Mike Macdermid 48:43
With the 2d franchise you mean? That's difficult, isn't it? Because I mean, they really have done i don't know i they would have to do something quite surprising to bring the market back around less. It's a completely
Unknown Speaker 48:55
different
Al Struthers 48:56
thing. I mean, think about Mario Sonic Olympics. That's basically some 2d Mario in there. Yeah. Yeah. It could be a completely left of your game.
Mike Macdermid 49:05
It could be it could be more Well, look, here's a here's an idea for you. Then we just talked about Mario and Luigi titles. One of their 3ds titles was RPG the stars one what was that called? Again? What about promo? Well, Paper Mario that could be a 2d potential that's kind of in between. But you've also I was thinking more of what if it was more like a 2d RPG and Mario style? Yeah, well done a couple of Mario RPG Mario and Luigi had an RPG.
Al Struthers 49:30
Yeah, but it was also Mario RPG.
Mike Macdermid 49:31
Yeah, yeah. All 1664 movie or impossible for them? Anyway, so that would be my thoughts. I'd have to go down that route Anton to go for something completely different.
Anton Winters 49:41
I guess. It depends on how broad they're being by Mario because it could be like more of a subconscious like a Mario lap by a warrior land or, and all they did a super Princess Peach game back in the DS era, so. And there's so much that it could be as exciting as like a return of all of these friends. Or it could be as boring as New Super Mario Bros free.
Mike Macdermid 50:05
Yeah. I don't think they'll do that. I think I think you're right. I think they'll go somewhere else with it. To be honest, I don't think they I don't think they're gonna sell enough if they go for, you know, a third in that franchise.
Al Struthers 50:16
Yeah, it would be cool to find some really, really random old RP, RP IP. And stop Mario and top that'd be funny. Yeah, like Mario Paint. Oh, man. I had Mario pain. Yeah, we
Mike Macdermid 50:28
can do that. You could do that in the sweat. You could? Yeah, I tell
Al Struthers 50:31
you. This was kind of 2d ish.
Mike Macdermid 50:33
I don't know. Anyway, it's just a rumour. At the moment. We will we will we shall see we don't exactly know what they're doing. On when so that while the rumour is and what they're doing essentially they are hiding. We know that. Blizzard says Nintendo can choose whatever character you want for Overwatch sprite, Smash Brothers, TLC, this almost. When I first read it, I felt they were being really sort of like, pedantic. like kind of like what we can do whatever we want, but they're not they're saying that Nintendo can choose whatever character they character they want. So in other words, we're going to see more Overwatch characters in Smash Brothers.
Anton Winters 51:04
fingers. Awesome. Yeah, I find that funny when I think we've seen this a few times when companies are like yeah, we can have you can apply for Capture One it just sadly, no, it's just like, Okay, if they've spoke King, Nintendo hasn't tied their hands banter back and to their characters not common to smash sadly. So it would be cool. It's enough for getting season two. So maybe the talks are our second wave of a smash character. So maybe the conversation hasn't begun yet. Yeah,
Al Struthers 51:34
yeah, I'm thinking that you said you'd be honoured if one of the Smash on a carrot experience Smash. But it might all just be a cunning marketing ploy. Yeah, go back to the bottom a little sceptical. I think it's just an upcoming marketing ploy deals probably done. Yeah, I reckon.
Mike Macdermid 51:47
Probably. Probably right.
Al Struthers 51:49
Thank you. probably right. I'll take the credit if and when it appears if not forget, I reset it.
Mike Macdermid 51:54
Okay, so we're going to move on to the quiz for those the joy the quiz, and just a brief reminder that we are going to be doing a poll about the quiz. whether or not we're going to keep it as we move toward season to the end of the year. And Anton is going to put that up online we have three options on there. So basically keep it Bennett or keep it but change out for something new for season two. So we'll get that pulled online. And with that it's time for this week's quiz. And I'm
Anton Winters 52:23
quite safe. I feel like it's a it's a fair it's a fair fight this time around. I have no idea who's gonna get ok. For this first title. It is a running gun game from 1984 developed by shiny entertainment. contra sadly incorrect.
Al Struthers 52:45
Shiny not ringing the bell pass.
Anton Winters 52:51
This game was a very vital for the Mega Drive and Super Nintendo releasing a 1984 at layer house port to the Sega CD, and 1995 the Gameboy Game Gear and Windows 95
Mike Macdermid 53:08
I had a Mega CD as well so well that's gonna help you then
Al Struthers 53:11
but shooting CD windows 95 does that
Unknown Speaker 53:13
came to the 94
Mike Macdermid 53:14
running gone?
Al Struthers 53:19
So many of the years not a single one is actually going to my main aim. My brain is not working. You know? I mean, I'm running gun I have no idea. It was rambled a game just because it's a stupid, rambling, rambling game made Rambo game they must have done now if you if you play the Rambo game, let us know.
Mike Macdermid 53:38
Yeah, I don't know. next clue.
Anton Winters 53:40
Alright, this running gun platforming game was also also had a sequel released in 1995 for the similar sort of console's your Meg treasures Nancy's then had one further game on Nintendo 64 what brought the game into the fourth dimension
Unknown Speaker 54:01
Oh at least mine to my
Al Struthers 54:03
area of expertise but I'm always going to say that what could that be?
Mike Macdermid 54:11
I can't actually think of any games around that you know that were released that late in the cycle but then went on to have sequels on in 64 running gun
Al Struthers 54:21
I just can't think of OB
Mike Macdermid 54:23
into 3d into 3d that's that's the one there for me that's thrown me you're gonna have to give us like a really simple okay next clue
Anton Winters 54:31
you play as a creature which is commonly found in the ground
Unknown Speaker 54:35
James called Jim
Unknown Speaker 54:36
yes
Anton Winters 54:43
that that that that that that that that that that
Unknown Speaker 54:47
is well done.
Anton Winters 54:49
Yeah, I would love to hear from Jeremy It's been a while since we've seen that I think there was a there was a HD version on the free sexy pause Been a while.
Al Struthers 54:57
I'm going to go on Google the 3d version. I didn't realise it was think oh yeah,
Anton Winters 55:00
it's so bad. It's one of the worse you can tell the started working on it before they solve a Super Mario 64 walls and are borderline killed the franchise but I don't know I love that because of that we transition from a spectators point of view it's like watching a car crash but with video games.
Mike Macdermid 55:18
Well, we are apparently getting an Earthworm Jim game at some point.
Unknown Speaker 55:25
I'm so excited about that.
Mike Macdermid 55:27
I'm going to switch yes but there's a there's there's a there's a catch I'm just trying to read this article what the catch is
Unknown Speaker 55:36
I don't like catches just give us a
Anton Winters 55:39
Super Mario Maker
Mike Macdermid 55:42
I'm not really sure says okay, so we don't know I think it's going to be a console exclusive but we don't know what it's going to be far yet so but it looks like the team behind them are back together to work on
Al Struthers 55:55
under so happy the idea of are some gentlemen back because it was hilarious. Yeah, was so stupid. I mean, properly stupid and weird. And I'm pretty sure whoever made they're made the games must have been How do I deplete this pointless without just getting sued and adjusting the way their brains work?
Mike Macdermid 56:12
Okay, I figured out why. Why it's a really odd comeback because it's going to be exclusive to the Intellivision article
Al Struthers 56:19
The what? I'm sorry, coming in here.
Anton Winters 56:22
Cancel. It was just so weird. Yeah.
Mike Macdermid 56:30
Well, maybe it has been since these articles were on earth because this was earlier in the year. And I don't know much about the article as to whether that's actually happened, but that was their plan. But the good news is if it's been been and then maybe that means that their next logical scenario would be to go to the to go to the switch and bring Earthworm Jim to switch. Why would they do that? Yeah,
Unknown Speaker 56:53
so bizarre is the weirdest decision I've ever heard.
Mike Macdermid 56:57
Yeah, it's not they're still saying it's being lost. The record is going to be coming out on in a year's time retailing it around about $150 Yeah,
Unknown Speaker 57:06
give it a while. I'll be on the switch. Earthworm Jim.
Mike Macdermid 57:09
Anyway, let's
Anton Winters 57:10
let's move on to the next game. Right? This one's gonna be this is gonna be hot off the gun who gets this? This is an action adventure game released in 2002.
Nope. You play the game and the fourth person and you played the character of Tommy was see me
Al Struthers 57:35
don't know I'm gonna guess mafia.
Unknown Speaker 57:36
mafia. mafia is sadly incorrect.
Mike Macdermid 57:41
I wasn't No. Okay, I'm back in the game.
Anton Winters 57:43
is a first person open world game. Say an ace. No guards have total Vice City. Oh, Alice sir wins a game. that that that that that that that?
Al Struthers 58:00
I've completely forgotten. That was the character's name. But yeah,
Mike Macdermid 58:02
yeah, that was where that's what threw me courageous at Grand Theft. Also that was 2002 for some reason in my head. I always had three years 2001 and then vice city's to those three
Al Struthers 58:12
fields later in my memory. But yeah, well, awesome.
Mike Macdermid 58:16
All right, next one. They got one more
Anton Winters 58:17
for say that all or nothing, Mr. Nothing. I'm doing all my hard work the unfair advantage but let's do it. This game is a fighting game. Released on Windows, Nintendo Switch, Playstation four. Xbox One and future and the future good. Yeah, Google stadia.
Al Struthers 58:39
We're going to get some more calls you guys.
Mike Macdermid 58:43
Okay, carry on?
Al Struthers 58:44
Awesome, I guess isn't it?
Mike Macdermid 58:45
Yeah, um, but do you see their house or sorry?
Al Struthers 58:49
killer instinct.
Anton Winters 58:50
Sadly, no. It's a long it's an entry and a long running fighting game franchise by Warner Bros interactive. And Nether realm shooting. Is it the
Mike Macdermid 59:02
the DC justice title game?
Anton Winters 59:07
Sadly, no.
Al Struthers 59:09
Is it well known?
Anton Winters 59:12
As moral Kombat. Fair enough.
Al Struthers 59:14
Yeah. As soon as I said two killers. There's like No, wrong one.
Mike Macdermid 59:21
